I learned last night that spaghetti is not good the second time around.  I decided to take my vitamins right before bed.  I’ve been taking 50 mg B6, a prenatal, and 1000 mg of fish oil omega-3 supplement.  I take the pills in that order.  I gagged a bit on the B6, which really has not flavor and is not that big.  I lost it on the prenatal.  Didn’t even consider the fish oil at that point.  So this morning was my first call to the nurses line at my OB to ask what can I do.  The answer right now is to try another prenatal.  It has everything I was already taking, except the fish oil, which she said most women can’t handle that in their first trimesters anyway.  I took it with dinner, and so far my dinner has stayed with me.  Here’s keeping my fingers crossed!  Last night was the first time I’ve actually gotten sick.  I’ve been nauseas a lot, but not productive until last night.

In better news, tonight I bought my first maternity shirts (short sleeves of course)!  I don’t need them yet, but I kind of figured if I buy things a little bit at a time, maybe it won’t be so bad when I do have to have them!  Plus I like to shop and I can’t justify buying normal clothes right now.  ;) But I had a 15% off coupon for my entire purchase at Kohl’s, and they had their maternity wear buy one get one free.  So I bought two shirts and used my coupon.  I didn’t mention that I like to shop, and find bargains!  I looked at baby stuff, but didn’t actually buy anything.  Soon, I’m sure.  But I’m also sure that family is starting to go crazy buying baby stuff, so I may not have to worry too much about that.

Speaking of which, my phone was ringing off the hook last night and this morning as word got around to family members.  They’re all excited, and it looks like I’ll have plenty of hand-me-downs and bought stuff from all of them!  I’m ok with that, really.

Ok, that’s all I’ve got for now!

The fish oil did me in as well. I also didn’t do well with the vanilla flavored ones that are supposed to cover up the fish oil. I take Duet DHA which is 2 pills and seems to have very little taste. If you’d like to try them, they come individually wrapped as a set so I could give you a few to see if it helps. Also, next time you go to the OB, ask if you can have a lot of samples to try. They did that for me and then I was able to get a prescription for the Duet DHA. But I always ask for samples when I go to the OB because the fish oil prenatals are so expensive.

Also, anything with tomatoes is no fun to upchuck. But I guess you’ve figured that out already on your own.

Yeah, the vanilla flavor on the fish oil was weird to me. It hadn’t made me lose it yet. I’m sure it would have Tuesday night had I made it that far. So far the vitamins I had prescribed seem to be doing fine. It doesn’t have the omega-3 though. I will be sure to ask for samples when I go in! Right now I don’t know how well I’d handle taking two pills in succession. It may not be that bad, I don’t know. I guess I could try. Anyway, I’m on Prenate Elite. It doesn’t have omega-3, but it does have 20mg of B6 (my otc one only had like 2 or something like that, so I supplemented) and it has a stool softener. Though that hasn’t been a problem for me yet, so I hope the vitamin doesn’t cause other problems…

You know, with the spaghetti, I don’t think I lost very much of the sauce. The part that really bothered me was the noodles! I know, gross, but really, it was bad. Maybe I need to chew better or something.

I have heard that taking two flintstones vitamins is just about the same as taking a regular prenatal — might be something to check out. (And yes, I take flintstones rather than regular vitamins anyway — they have enough folic acid so I’m good).

I’ve heard that about the flintstones vitamins too. I even mentioned that to my husband after I got sick the other night. But I didn’t think to ask the nurse about it. It might be worth checking into though!

The Duet has 25mg of B6, which the packaging claims is to help reduce nausea, maybe that’s why it worked better for me than the others? It also claims no stool softener is required. This has never been a problem for me until I started taking the extra iron the OB put me on about a month ago. Not because I needed the iron but because they now put everyone on extra iron towards the end. Grrr! I think I also tried the Elite and I believe it was my second favorite and if I’m remembering correctly there is a 2 pill version of that with the omega-3, one in the a.m. and one in the p.m. That might save you from the two pills at once problem.

Yeah, noodles are very not good. Really anything chunky is BAD. If you can eat a bit of sweet with your meal that helps with the reappearance taste, however I wasn’t ever able to tolerate any sweet stuff the first trimester. I always wondered how bulimics did it because it’s so nasty. If I’d known one during the first trimester, I’d have been tempted to call her up and ask for her purging secrets, in a totally I-hope-you-aren’t-doing-this-on-a-regular-basis kind of way.

Do you have sea-bands? I can loan you mine if you want. They help some people and not others but I had pretty good luck with them off and on. Also, if the nausea is really bugging you, call the OB and she can prescribe you something. Also, works for some and not for others.

Yeah, B6 is supposed to help with nausea, which is why I didn’t stop taking my supplement when I got pregnant. I was afraid if I did the nausea would be worse! So far I’m doing good on the elite. Since I paid for 30 day supply, I’ll probably keep taking that at least until I go to the OB in April. I will probably want to get the omega-3 back in some form after this trimester is over. I’ll ask them about that when I go too. Yeah, two pills one in the morning and one at night really would get rid of the two pills in succession problem, I think.

Yeah, I usually don’t want anything sweet. At all. Though I did just eat half a chocolate muffin, so occasionally I can handle it. ;) But I tend to want either the salty stuff, or if I want sweet, I want fruit. Which really is probably a good thing!

I don’t have any sea-bands. Maybe that would help? I also haven’t tried any ginger ale or ginger snaps, and I keep meaning to. Fortunately ( I guess) the nausea mostly hits me at night, which isn’t too bad. I feel ok while I’m at work, so I still feel like I can function. If I couldn’t function I probably would ask for something to take to make it better. Also, theoretically this should end soon. I know that it doesn’t end after the first trimester for everybody, but hopefully it will for me! I can’t think of anything else I haven’t tried yet, but I know there is more. One person told me Nilla Wafers work well, but again with the not wanting the sweet.

Plain crackers are always good for nausea and lemon flavored drinks as well as ginger ale. You can totally borrow my sea-bands. Actually you can have them, cause I’m done with them now.

I have tons of crackers and also have diet sierra mist. Those do help, sometimes.

And thanks! :)
